On a personal basis Pam and I have had a difficult year but as ever she has been a tower of strength which has powered me on.
SCAN has once again proved itself to be a robust organisation with strength in depth in all aspects, we are a Team to be proud of and one to be admired.
As ever we have to focus on what we are established to do, which is to,
Rescue , Rehabilitate and Re-Home, our Cats and Dogs, we are fulfilling that task with success and vigor.
When I talk about the SCAN Team
that means the,

Shop
Foster Parents
and
Members
the integration and commitment we have experienced during the Year has been amazing.

THE SHELTER
At the Shelter the new Campo areas are still developing their potential , and I expect to get more and more use from them during 2022, The Cat complex is turning into
a Hotel and fills all who visit with admiration.
The Dog area is in need of some expenditure, however still we work hard to provide a good standard of Accomodation for All Cats and Dogs.
This year we will be planning the Roof replacement in the Dogs, the ravages of 10 Spanish Winters and Summers is telling on the fabric of the roofs and consequently when we have heavy rains it creates poor condition for the Dogs.
Adoptions remain excellent and once again are proof of the Teams commitment to the health and well being of our Animals.
Our Collaboration with Little Black Dog in Guernsey is a true benefit to SCAN both in terms of Adoptions and Income received which replenishes our funds as we recover expenditure in relation to the veterinary and maintenance cost of running the Shelter. Apart from this direct Income Little Black Dog have made a number of significant donations to SCAN to aid our work.
Despite COVID our Registration as an Official Transporter allowed SCAN to undertake the long trans - european journey to Guernsey via the Ferry from St Malo , initially we had to travel back via the UK as we had to unload in Guernsey and travel onto Portsmouth as COVID restrictions meant we could not stay on Guernsey as per normal.
We made 4 journeys in 2021 a total of about 17,000 klms. Guernsey now allows SCAN to stay which reduces our Road trip by about 850 kilometers each trip.
Little Black Dog provide SCAN with accomodation in an Annex to Tina Paquires house, Tina is the President of Little Black Dog.
We have had to change our Vets from Clinica la Solana in Orba to VETERCAN in Pedrequer, this was brought about by Javier and Nuria from La Solana relocating to Kuwait City to establish a new Veterinary Hospital , they are sadly missed by SCAN, I still keep in contact and they provide us with second opinions when requested which is a great service to us.
We moved to Vetercan after reviewing a number of options. Vetercan comprehensively matched our treatment and care criteria, and as such we chose them, our Vets are Teresa and Mateo, a key factor is that this team enable our weekly in-house Veterinary Clinic is maintained.
THE SHOP
The SCAN Shop provides not only an essential stream of Income to SCAN but also provides a good service to the population of El Verger.
The shop Team work tirelessly to keep the Shop fresh and Inviting and has branched out during the year to running a high quality stall at Local Rastros selling items which do not quite meet the quality rules for the Shop, it has proved a very successful Venture providing additional Income to SCAN.
We ran a highly successful SCAN SHOP FASHION SHOW at the Casa de Cultura our first large scale Event of 2021, my thanks to the entire Team involved.
EVENTS
Event planning has been finished which provides for a projected Budget for 2022, however we must expect that Covid restrictions and new rules may have some effect on the new schedule.
We have re-organised the Events Team to enable to be able to cope with the new schedule of Events and to provide a flexible Team to deal with the challenges which i am certain we will face,
SOCIAL MEDIA
We have established a Social Media group who are tasked to enable SCAN to move with the times and be seen by a wider socio-economic group in the younger ages,the objective is to bolster our membership, I have to remind myself daily that objects are not getting smaller and neither are they further away,!!!
We now have a presence on Instagram which feeds across our other platforms.
FINANCE
We carry out strong Financial controls at SCAN and our TREASURER has been a real asset to SCAN.
As normal a full Financial Report will be available at the AGM.
Regarding the AGM it is my intention to hold an AGM at SCAN this Year in the EVENTS Area in February,
It will be an outdoors meeting under full COVID controls, please attend , a notification regarding thie AGM will be sent out. shortly.
